CANCER SCREENING IN WOMEN

Category CANCER SCREENING IN WOMEN

PAP SMEAR
A procedure in which a small brush is used to gently remove cells from the surface of the cervix and the area around it so they can be checked under a microscope for cervical cancer or cell changes that may lead to cervical cancer. A pap smear itself takes only one or two minutes, but the entire appointment may be longer. This is because pap smears can be performed during a regular or annual gynecological visit, which involves a doctor talking to you about other aspects of your health.

COLPOSCOPY

A colposcopy is a test to take a closer look at your cervix. The cervix is the opening to your womb from your vagina. A colposcopy is often done if cervical screening finds changes to your cells that are caused by certain types of human papillomavirus (HPV). These changed cells can turn into cervical cancer cells.
